A Highland Summer Escape: Under Canvas at Eden Court Theatre

There’s something unforgettable about the Highlands in summer. The sky stretches longer, the breeze carries a soft wild scent, and the days seem to move at a gentler pace. Nestled into this season is one of the region’s most heartwarming cultural traditions: Under Canvas at Eden Court Theatre.

Running from July 2 to August 23, 2025, this open-air festival in Inverness brings together the best of local music, food, and storytelling — all under a series of beautifully lit canvas tents beside the River Ness.

A Cultural Celebration Rooted in the Highlands

First introduced in 2018, Under Canvas quickly became a summer favourite. It was created to shine a light on
homegrown talent and offer a relaxed space for communities and visitors to gather. You’ll hear everything from traditional Gaelic folk to contemporary acoustic sets. It’s easygoing, creative, and full of charm — the kind of place where locals mingle with travellers over live tunes and wood-fired pizza. The event reflects the Highlands itself: welcoming, soulful, and just a little magical.

Reflections from Gunta

A Personal Note from Gunta

“June feels like the heart opening. Every year, I watch the Highlands shift from spring to summer, and it reminds me how life is always renewing itself. I love seeing guests arrive sometimes a little weary and leave with lighter steps, fuller hearts, and a deep love for this place.”

About Us

Gunta Freidenfelde and Michael Mackenzie
It all started at Beechwood Lodge. Back in 2017 I had the opportunity to rent a 5 bedroom B&B, which we ran for almost 10 years before turning it into a self-catering holiday home. We now manage mutliple properties around the Highlands focusing on providing cosy, comfortable and high quality stays.
